GAP analysis project Data Exchange End2End

On 01.05.2019, the Data Exchange End2End project was launched in form of a crowdfunding project with 6 founding members in the fashion industry. Over the duration of the project until July 2020, the number of supporters has grown to a total of 37 company representatives. The project was managed by Andreas Schneider from the consulting firm GCS Consulting.

The project dealt with the following three main topics:

  • Spectral Color Communication
  • Collaborative Planning & Projection
  • Master data automation

These results are technically complex and connected with various dependencies. Against this background, GS1 Germany together with GS1 Austria decided to carry out an analysis of the project results in order to identify effects and new requirements on the GS1 system and to be able to evaluate them internationally.

For the three main topics mentioned, the main findings can be summarized as follows:

  • Spectral Color Communication
If digital color values become established on the market, then this is to be welcomed by GS1, which then has to be transferred to the fashion data model.
  • Collaborative Planning & Projection
The basis for this topic is the Global Upstream Supply Initiative (GUSI). The most important requirements for collaborative planning are, in addition to a culture of collaboration, clean master data, clear processes and the necessary documents.
  • Master data automation
From the perspective of the pilot project participants, they have developed a basis for an "End2End" data exchange, from sheep to recycling, a strictly "pull data" oriented approach.

GS1 would like to continue the technologically independent approach of the Fashion Pilot also in the upstream area analogous to the Global Data Model (GDM) approach, that means according to the onion pattern principle from local to global, if there is a community order.

All details of the analysis can be found in the documents on the landing page.
