| 1974 | The CCG – Centrale für Coorganisation – is founded in Cologne. Its aim is to establish uniform standards for trade and the consumer goods industry. | | 1977 | Twelve European countries – including all the EC states – agree on a uniform European Article Number (EAN) – the barcode is born. | | 1996 | The number systems and message standards of the CCG are increasingly being used outside the consumer goods sector. The CCG consequently extends its field of activity to associated industrial sectors. | | 2004 | RFID technology develops rapidly. The CCG establishes an EPC/RFID specialist group containing representatives from industry, trade and logistics and consistently promotes the implementation of Radio Frequency Identification. | | 2005 | The CCG becomes GS1 Germany. After the USA, GS1 Germany is the second largest of the more than 100 national organisations in the international GS1 (Global Standards One) network. | | 2007 | The EAN barcode – the classic barcode – and the GS1 standards are 30 years old.
